Regal's Roselle Monteverde Gives Big Break To Indie Director Borgy Monteverde In 'Resureksyon' Starring Isabelle Daza

ROSELLE MONTEVERDE is giving a break to new director Alfonso “Borgy” Torre III in the horror film, “Resureksyon”. “I saw his Cinema One indie film, ‘Kabisera’ starring Joel Torre at nagustuhan ko,” she says. “We met with him and heto, tapos na ang first mainstream movie niya with us. And we’re so impressed. Maganda siya so we’re giving him another project right away, a trilogy with two other new directors, Carlo Mendoza and Noel Manacsa.”

Born in Bacolod on Sept. 1, 1985, Borgy finished high school in their province then took up communication arts at La Salle Taft. “I also took a filmmaking workshop with Peque Gallaga and started winning awards for my short films,” he says. “It was with Direk Erik Matti that I got a lot of training in editing and as assistant director. I then started directing TV commercials. When they got me for ‘Resureksyon’, may storyline na sila. Binuo na lang namin all the plot points through brainstorming and Dwight Gaston wrote the full script. It’s the story of a mother, Mara, who went to Myanmar to work as DH. Iniwan niya ang anak niya to her sister, Aila. She returned home in a coffin. During her wake, bigla siyang bumangon mula sa kabaong niya. But with her resurrection, something happened to her. Naging bampira siya.”

How did he cast the movie? “We want someone new, so we got Isabelle Daza as Mara. This is her first lead role. As Aila, we also want someone fresh at bagay na bagay si Jasmine Curtis Smith. Kasama rin sina Paulo Avellino as a cop who becomes Jasmine’s love interest, ‘Honesto’s’ Raiko Matteo as the son of Mara, John Lapus as the uncle of Mara and Aila, Nino Muhlach as the town mayor and Gee Canlas as his wife, Alex Castro as the town’s doctor and Dan Fernandez as the chief of police. I’m so happy with the whole ensemble dahil lahat, magaan katrabaho. Isabelle is an intelligent actress who asks the right questions about the script. Hindi nagreklamo kahit pinaliguan ko siya ng dugo and asked her to do some stunts. Si Jasmine naman is such a gifted actress. They really impressed me.”

“Resureksyon” opens in theaters nationwide on September 23.
