Wally Bayola's Career Is Peaking After Sex Video Scandal, But Paolo Bediones' Career Remains In The Doldrums

WALLY BAYOLA is surely making waves as Lola Nidora in the “Eat Bulaga” Kalyeserye. He’s getting a lot of praises from all quarters because of his fine acting doing not just Lola Nidora but multiple roles. Who would have thought he’d be enjoying this current peak in his career when, just last year, he was down in the doldrums because of his infamous video sex scandal? He’s really the celebrity who made the most successful comeback after being involved in such a mess and he shows there’s truth to adage that life is like a wheel. Sometimes up, sometimes you’re down.

Also quite successful is JM de Guzman, who lost his career due to drug addiction but has since returned with a bang after winning a best actor award in the sleeper hit “That Thing Called Tadhana”. He’s now in two new movies, “Walang Forever”, a Metro filmfest entry with Jennylyn Mercado, and “Tandem”, a film with Nico Antonio about bad guys who are riding in tandem which has been accepted in several film festivals abroad. And not only that, after his “Angelito, Batang Ama” was cut short due to his drug problem three years ago, he’s now starring again in his own soap, “All of Me”. There’s a blind item which says a young actor who’s just been given a second chance is backsliding and we hope it’s not him.

Other celebs who have returned to a life of normalcy after their involvement in scandals are Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili, who have since forgiven each other. Katrina has returned doing soaps while Hayden even got back his medical license to practice being a doctor again. Then there’s that child actress whose sex video circulated on the internet a few months ago. She and her network just ignored it and she now continues to appear as a mainstay in her regular soap.

But there’s someone who also figured in a sex scandal and still remains in limbo up to now: Paolo Bediones. In his podcast interview with DJ Mo, who himself has not recovered from his own scandalous video where he assailed Rhian Ramos, Paolo revealed that when his laptop collapsed, it was brought to a shop in Greenhills for repair and that’s when some bad guys got the sex video and were later blackmailing him to pay P3 million.

In the interview, Paolo apologized: “Sorry to my family for the shame I brought to them. To the viewers, fans, admirers, people who have been supportive all these years – I would like to say from the bottom of my heart if I disappointed anyone – I am really sorry. I know that what I did was not a crime but, you know, these things just happen. They happen to the best guys, they happen to the worst guys. Bottomline is, do you know how to deal with it? Do you know how to take this, is there any way to turn this into positive?”

And obviously, he has not really found a way to turn it into positive so he granted that interview, probably as a kind of closure. Let’s face it, up to now, Paolo has not really recovered as a news anchor or TV host. The stigma in his case has been more lasting than that of Wally or even Parokya ni Edgar’s Chito Miranda. Simply because his position with TV5’s News and Public Affairs is more prestigious and laden with more responsibilities than just being a comedian or a band singer. Still and all, here’s hoping that sooner or later, hopefully sooner, Paolo can still bounce back and be a much sought after and respected news anchor and host once again.
