Francis Tolentino No Longer MMDA Chairman But Remains To Be The Face Of Metro Manila Filmfest In Its TV & Film Ads

SENATORIABLE Francis Tolentino might no longer be the MMDA Chairman but he continues to be the face of the MMDA in its ads for the coming Metro-Manila Film Festival. In trailers now being shown on TV and in movie houses, he officially introduces all the eight mainstream entries. The grosses of filmfest earnings really increased a lot during his term and he also supported indie films by putting up the New Wave section, an animation section and a student short film competition as part of the annual festival.

He has resigned from the Liberal Party after the infamous twerking scandal and is now running as independent senatorial candidate. Tolentino promises to continue helping the local movie industry when he gets elected as senator. “Sana, magtuloy-tuloy ang tagumpay ng films like ‘Heneral Luna’ at ma-revive uli ang local films,” he says. “Kailangan talaga tulungan ang mga producer kasi sobrang laki na ng cost of production and they face a lot of problems sa continued importation of foreign films at sa patuloy na paglaganap ng film piracy. We should give more tax incentives and subsidies to local producers to help them.”

He majored in philosophy at the Ateneo then pursued a law degree, graduating in 1984. He has a master of laws from the University of London and is a doctor of judicial science from Tulane University Law School in New Orleans. He also took courses on public service and administration in New York University, The Hague Academy, Rand Graduate School in California, Bookings Institute in Washington DC and National Defense College of the Philippines. He was mayor of Tagaytay City for 3 consecutive terms before being the MMDA Chairman.

He’s not worried that he doesn’t belong to any political party. “When you are born and when you die, wala naman sa birth and death certificates mo kung anong partido mo. Basta ako, ang partido ko, ang buong Pilipinas at ang mga miembro ng partido ko, lahat ng mga Pilipino.”

Helping Tolentino in his candidacy in “CelebriTV” host Lolit Solis. “Mahal ko si Chariman Tolentino kasi noong maaksidente ang co-host namin sa ‘Startalk’ na si Alyssa Alano, hindi ako ako nahirapang humingi ng tulong sa kanya para saklolohan si Alyssa. Kaya lagi siyang nasa puso ko.”
