New Director Randolph Longjas Thankful That Quantum Films Is Very Supportive In Giving All He Wants For 'Buy Now Die Later'

QUANTUM FILMS gives new director Randolph Longjas his biggest break in doing his first mainstream movie, “Buy Now Die Later”, an entry in the coming Metro-Manila Filmfest. “I saw his indie film, ‘Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo’ rin, at nagandahan ako,” says Quantum producer Atty. Joji Alonso, who also gave Dan Villegas his directorial break last year in “English Only Please” that gave him a best director award. “So when he pitched his concept for ‘Buy Now Die Later’, nagustuhan ko and we further developed it with the help of Ricky Lee. Ngayon, heto, pelikula na siya. I’ve seen it and we’re proud of the movie. Maganda siya, may laban sa festival talaga.”

Randolph is only 26 years old and he’s even younger than some of his stars in the movie, like Vhong Navarro, Alex Gonzaga, Lotlot de Leon, John Lapus and TJ Trinidad. He took up Broadcast Communications in UP Diliman and he started his directing career doing TV commercials.

“I’m really thankful to Quantum for giving me the chance to do this movie,” he says. “Very supportive si Atty. Joji at hindi pinagtipiran ang movie. We have a very big cast and we spent so much sa production ng antique shop ni TJ Trinidad which is very crucial sa story. We built it on a special set in a building in Binondo, very expensive, and later on, sinunog lang namin sa ending ng movie.”

Does he expect to win a best director award like Dan did last year? “No, sa kanila na lang ang award. I’m just so happy na nakapasok kami as an entry sa Metro Filmfest. Basta ginawa kong malinis at maayos ang movie namin at ang goal ko is ma-appreciate ng tao ang content namin. It is so different from all the other entries, kaya sana, pag-usapan siya. Para sa akin, it’s an honor and a humbling experience na mapahanay ako sa ibang directors na may entries sa festival kasi ang feeling ko, I still have a long way to go, marami pa kong kakaining bigas bago ako maihanay sa kanila. I also want to thank all the cast members, including Rayver Cruz and Janine Gutierrez, kasi they’re all very cooperative and made my work easier. ”
