On January 18, two horror flicks will open. From Quantum Films comes “Ilawod” directed by Dan Villegas, famous for his romcoms and is now directing his first horror movie. This stars Iza Calzado and Ian Veneracion as a couple whose family is harassed by an evil water elemental. “Dark Room” is from Viva Films, done found-footage style ala-”Blair Witch”, with a bunch of young newcomers like Ella Cruz, AJ Muhlach, Andrew Muhlach, Jack Reid, Bret Jackson, Donnalyn Bartolome, Rose Van Ginkel, Sam Capulong and Caleb Santos.
On January 25, Regal is fielding the romantic comedy “Foolish Love” starring Angeline Quinto, Jake Cuenca, Cai Cortez and the new love team of Tomiho with Tommy Esguerra and Miho Nishida, directed by Joel Lamangan.
TBA (Tuko/Butchi Boy Films/Articulo Uno Productions), which released the Metro Filmfest best pic “Sunday Beauty Queen”, has also started showing trailers of their next releases. “I’m Drunk, I Love You” looks very promising. It’s a romcom starring Maja Salvador, Paulo Avelino, Dominic Roco and Jasmine Curtis Smith. It's something you’d really want to watch out for.
But their trailer of FH Batacan’s “Smaller and Smaller Circles” starring Sid Lucero and Noni Buencamino is ineffective. As a viewer, you want to figure out what a coming movie is all about and this one doesn’t do that. As a matter of fact, it won’t attract your attention at all. They should come up with another more involving version that will grasp or hook the viewer’s interest and make him eagerly wait for it when it’s shown..
