Mario Bautista, has been with the entertainment industry for more than 4 decades. He writes regular columns for People's Journal and Malaya.

Hello and Mabuhay to all movie buffs and showbiz aficionados.

Showbiz Portal gives you the latest buzz, events and happenings today in the world of Pinoy showbiz. The articles are updated on a regular basis to ensure that the contents are fresh and new. The site also helps the readers look down memory lane. It provides nostalgic articles about past films, yesterday’s stars and important events.

The Writer

Yours truly, Mario Bautista, has been with the entertainment industry for more than 3 decades.

I started my professional career in Channel 5, the carrier station of the Manila Times, in 1965. I was with the film programming department. We got to screen old movies, both local and foreign before it was aired on shows like "Million Dollar Movies", "Sinagtala" and "Bahaghari". I also helped in the production of some TV shows, like "Magmahal ay Langit", then directed by Celso Ad. Castillo, and "Pamilya Kontra-Partido", a sitcom. The station was closed down by martial law in September of 1972. During that time, I was already the head of the film programming department.

In 1976, I was invited to write film reviews for "TV Guide", edited by Rod Reyes. I was invited to be a member of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino that gave out the Urian Awards.

Newspapers then invited me to write entertainment columns and reviews for them, including "People's Tonite", "People's Journal", "Times Journal", and "The Philippines' Daily Express". Later, I also wrote columns for "Ang Masa", "The Manila Chronicle", and "The Manila Bulletin". I likewise had regular columns for several magazines, including Jingle Extra Hot, Movie Flash, Intrigue, Expose, Fame, Hot Copy, Parade, People's, and others.

On TV, I was a co-host of Armida Siguion Reyna and Behn Cervantes in "Let's Talk Movies" and did film reviews on air for "The Big, Big Show". In 1985, I became a member of the Philippine Movie Press Club that gave out the Star Awards for Movies. In 1987, I was instrumental in putting up the Star Awards for Television.
When the Manila Times resumed publication in 1999, I was invited by then publisher Katrina Legarda to be its entertainment editor.

I now write regular columns for People's Journal and Malaya, and for the Japanese based fortnightly, Pinoy Gazette. With the advent of the internet now comes the birth of showbiz-portal.com.

I decided to focus on just a few outlets now that I'm a widower. My late wife, Victoria Arcega-Bautista, who was the Vice Chancellor of the UP Open University, passed in February, 2008. I now prefer spending more time with my three grandchildren.

The Webmaster

Shirleen Bautista is the wife of my son, Mario Miguel. She learned the art of programming as a Computer Science graduate of Adamson University. She honed her skills in various companies such as Webcast Technologies Inc, Nexxus Technologies and Telcograde Systems.

Being an entrepreneur at heart, she likes to venture into various types of businesses. At a tender young age of 13, she started her entrepreneurial career by selling homemade cookies and various items. During college she delved into the card making, retail and food business. She bought items in bulk and sold them for a decent profit.

She also has a strong passion for the arts. On her spare time she likes to cultivate her creativity by designing using photo shop.

In 2006, she stumbled upon her true niche as a webmaster. What better way to cultivate both her entrepreneurial skills and creativity thru web design and ecommerce?

In 2008, she retired at the age of 26 to concentrate on the E-business. Her two leading websites are Gadget Hub, a provider of low cost and high quality gadgets, as well as Showbiz Portal.
